About

History

Our local suicide awareness and prevention coalition's efforts began over a decade ago under the leadership of Dr. Chris Drapeau, then a BSU doctoral student, and Dr. Jay Zimmerman (1947-2018), community activist, NAMI Delaware Co. IN Board member, and psychologist. Together they shared their passion for saving lives and supporting those locally whose lives were touched by suicide. Today we have expanded beyond the original prevention and child focus, to host numerous pre- and postvention trainings, developing a LOSS team (supporting suicide survivors--the CARES Team), a survivor support group, and an inclusive perspective serving the individuals and varied communities and groups that call Delaware Co. IN, home. Many of our volunteers are themselves suicide loss and traumatic loss survivors or have lived experience with suicide.  We foster an atmosphere of care, respect, and no judgement. Everyone with a desire to help can join us. No previous experience or expertise is required.

All are welcome.

“Embrace life, turn love into action, give back and find some joy every day.”

- Jay S. Zimmerman (1947-2018)
